Rep. Wendzel Press Releases
Rendezvous With Destiny
In the closing weeks of the 1980 Presidential Election, Ronald Reagan posed a now-historic question that turned a tight race into a landslide victory: “Are you better off today than you were four years ago?”
As voters head to the polls, they’ve been inundated with political ads, mail, texts, and every form of outreach political parties can devise to get their message across. Yet after all the flyers are sent and the ads aired, the question of questions still remains for voters heading to the ballot box: “Am I better off?”
Looking at the difference between Republican policies and current Democratic policies, the answer is a resounding “no.” Michigan—and our county—are not certainly not better off under Democrat rule.
Under Republicans, mortgage rates were as low as 2.77%. Under Democrats, they soared to 7.75%, placing the dream of homeownership out of reach for countless Americans. While Republican policies helped increase personal savings by 385%, Democrats have overseen a 73% decline. Credit card defaults fell by 11% under Republicans, but under Democrats, they’ve jumped 50%. Most importantly, real weekly wages, which rose 8.2% thanks to pro-growth Republican reforms, have fallen by 3.9% under Democrat policies.
The result? Real wages are falling, and runaway inflation, driven by reckless fiscal policies, has made everyday living unaffordable. Southwest Michiganders work hard, yet feel it’s impossible to get ahead, no matter how much effort they put in. It’s unfair, and it’s the number one issue I’m committed to addressing when Republicans take back the Michigan House and restore commonsense in our state government.
As voters prepare to cast their ballots and reflect on the question of questions: “Am I better off?” let’s commit to making that answer next election a resounding “yes.”
With bold leadership and a return to commonsense policies that provide more opportunities, we can revive the American Dream for every Michigander. We can be the architects of a future where hard work is rewarded, where families can thrive, and where opportunity isn’t just an ideal but a reality. This isn’t just our moment; it’s our Mission For Michigan. Together, we can turn the page on the current failures plaguing our state and nation and once again make our country an incredible place to start a career, raise a family, and enjoy retirement.
The words from Ronald Reagan’s Speech “A Time for Choosing” still ring true today. On November 5th, “We have a rendezvous with destiny.” Let’s go save our country.
